Avoid Using Cell Phones, Bisphenol-A Bottles and Microwave Ovens

Many times when I talk over my Nokia cell phone for more than a few minutes, my cell phone heats up and it also heats up my hear pressed against it.  I feel pain in my ear and I have to stop the conversation.

The recent Chinese power milk scandal has made me become more aware of the safety issues in my life.  In a market economy, so often, manufacturers and corporations are driven more by profit than ensuring safety of the customers.

Take for example plastic bottles containing Bisphenol A.  Back in 1930s researchers raised alarms of the toxi effects of this chemical.  It took over 70 years for the Canadian government to gain enough confidence in research results to ban this chemical in plastic baby bottles.  By now, 2-3 generations of Canadians have consumed this chemical.

In July 2008, Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, issued an advisory for cautionary cell phone use, based on a “growing body of literature linking long-term cell phone use to possible adverse health effects including cancer.”

In September 2008, a Swedish research group reported at the first international conference on mobile phones and health reported that mobile phone use “raises children’s risk of brain cancer fivefold.”  I wonder how long it will take to implement a ban on cell phone use by children.

There have also been reports on health issues with microwaved food.  As microwave un-naturally heats up food by violently spinning the modecules to create violent friction and hence, quick heat, some of the food molecules are re-shaped or broken, which creates different molecules.  As a chemist, I have learned that sometimes a paired of molecules with mirrored structures — like your right hand is on the left side of the you in a mirror — have very different properties and can even function in an opposite way.  Some historic facts can be found in this article: http://curezone.com/foods/microwave_oven_risk.asp

To be safe, avoid using cell phones, bisphenol A bottles – they are not banned in the US yet, and microwave ovens.

But Xiaoping Li, while I try to avoid all these things, the fact is that equally dangerous or even worse things are all around us, in the water, in the air, in the food (processed and raw), in many of the products that we use on a daily basis. You feel that you are living in a minefield of both hidden and overt dangers and that itself is dangerous to your health because of the stress that that anxiety causes. This is progress?
